Hello everyone! My name is Abby, a first year at UCLA studying pre-Business Economics with a minor in Spanish and I am originally from Marblehead, Massachusetts! I want to continue helping kids see subject matter in a way that they can not only remember it, but understand it as well.  In the classroom, I will take a chance and raise my hand to ask a question, not deterred by the fact that I may be admitting that I don’t know something or might be wrong. I am prepared to sit down with the kids I tutor and answer all of their questions, until they can fully understand what we work on, leading them to succeed in class. I look forward to tutoring kids in a variety of subjects including all elementary classes, Algebra I and II, Pre-Calculus, English, Statistics, History (U.S and European), and Spanish. I am very excited to begin working with you all and helping you succeed inside and out of the classroom!

Hannah Foligno.jpg

Hi everyone! My name is Hannah Foligno, and I am a recent graduate of UCLA where I obtained a BA in English Literature. During my time as a student, I worked at Pierce Community College as an English and Italian tutor. As a tutor, I provide an easy-going learning environment where students are encouraged to ask questions when they feel stuck and hopeless. Most of all, every student is different. The most important aspect of tutoring is to listen to each student to better fit their individual needs.  Every student is capable of so much more than they think, and it is always my goal to provide and encourage the confidence that is needed in order to grow in a subject. With that said, I can tutor K-12 in writing, reading, composition, and grammar. I also specialize in college admissions and personal statement tutoring. Besides English, I can tutor in all subjects K-8 as well as high school Algebra 1, Biology, and Chemistry. When I am not tutoring, I love writing, watching movies, making my own films, and doing anything that involves the ocean. I look forward to working together!

Jonathan Dutton.jpg

Warm greetings to all students, and parents. I am Jonathon Dutton, a graduate of UCSB with a BA in History, and I plan on pursuing a PHD soon. History, literature, vocabulary, and writing are some of my strongest academic fields, and I would be thrilled to help students of all ages improve in them. These subjects, history in particular, are my passions, and there is no activity that I enjoy more than discussing and teaching others about them. While at UCSB I earned a 3.75 cumulative GPA and I was on the dean’s list four times. I have tutored classmates in history at the upper division college level before, and I find that the personal satisfaction of helping a student grow their knowledge and academic skills is far more pleasing to me than any material reward. In my free time I enjoy playing video games, visiting museums and botanical gardens, traveling to sites of historical importance, cooking, hunting for the best restaurants in Southern California, and reading about anything related to history, philosophy and or politics. My dream job would be to be a curator in the British Museum in London, but anywhere will do. One thing about my style of teaching that I think is important, is that I want all my students to understand that the coolest thing that you can be when you are young is smart. No amount of pleasing one’s peers socially and being popular will be as emotionally fulfilling as the knowledge in one’s head and the confidence that comes from it. I hope not only to help your student improve in my fields of specialty, but also to be a positive role model in their life that will inspire them to be the best version of themselves.
